Training Tables

Let’s start with the least expensive path to reconfiguration. Our version of the classic training table can include a folding top mechanism and casters for instant re-arrangement.  This type of table is best when you need to quickly re-arrange the space, or take the tables out entirely.   We can also include daisy chained power/data units.  Many of our sets, like the ones shown in our illustration, include a customized polygon head table, in order to make an integrated video configuration.  Custom training tables also allow you to specify the proper size for the room.  We’ve made a lot of 32 x 96 tables, which provide more seating per table than the ordinary 30 x 60 or 36 x 72 sizes.

Boardroom Quality Modular Tables

If you want flexibility without sacrificing elegance, a set of modular tables can be built with upscale materials and features.  There are many ways to do this – the example above was built for a client in Alaska, and incorporates the logo of their organization in the table base.    Tables of this type can be more complex to set up and reconfigure than training tables.  They work best if there is time and staff available to make the switch.

Reconfigurable Boardroom Tables

A traditional boardroom table can be made in pieces to allow a variety of configurations.  Our illustration shows a design scheme we did for the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.  It’s a big table:   40 feet long when all together.  Our ability to make something this large out of smaller units, each with wheels to facilitate movement, allows the client to subdivide the space when required.  Tables like this usually need to stay in the space they inhabit.

Movable/Removable Sections

Very large tables are often made with an open center.  We can build these with removable sections so that clients can use that space.  The example above is even trickier: in addition to two removable sections on the sides of the table,   the entire wide end can be shifted 6 feet from the rest.  In this picture, the two removable sections are still in place, with their retractable wheels in the rolling position.   The end unit has been moved already.  In all configurations, the A/V setup is fully functional.   Making something like this work requires superior engineering and craftsmanship.  Do you have a tough reconfiguration problem?  We can help.

Scissoring Tables

If your boardroom needs to handle both face-to-race meetings and videoconferencing, scissoring tables are a nice solution.  We’ve invented a mechanism that engages wheels in the base in just a few seconds, so that the arms can be shifted quickly.  Wiring can be complex, as the arms contain full wire runs that feed into the fixed circular base.

We made the table in the .gif for Allstate Insurance – there’s also video of the base on our shop floor on our home page.  If you are looking for a solution that is very easy to operate, but also substantial and elegant, scissoring tables work well.

Checklist Questions

Reconfigurable situations are all unique.  We’ve learned to start these projects with some questions:

•  Why do you want the table to reconfigure?  What situations are you planning for?

•  How often do the tables need to be reconfigured?

•  Does reconfiguration need to be very easy or can it be more complex?

•  Do the tables need to be removed entirely from the room or not?

•  If so, where will they go?

•  And who will move them?

•  And how will they move them?  Are special carts required?

•  How much time is available to do this?

•  How will the wires be handled in different configurations?

•  What is the target budget for this project?
